ODM Public School

In the year 1989, 10 students entered into a small dingy room which was supposedly their school and this was the first step towards a big dream visualized by a visionary educationist Dr. Satyabrata Minaketan, the Founder-Chairman of ODM educational group. With numerous degrees into his pocket and myriad career options before him, this man chose an unsteady and thorny path of establishing a school which would be a school with a difference and serve the mankind with real knowledge.That small room with 10 students was the beginning of what you see today as ODM Public School.

With no external support and no godfather, the school rose to heights and crossed several milestones year after year. A secondary school was set-up for Socio-Economic Backward children in 1992 followed by the school’s secondary branch in 1996. It then moved into a small campus with 350 children. Soon the quality of education, individual attention to students saw the numbers rise each year. It was only in 2005, the school took a giant leap by opening the Senior Secondary branch which saw the enrollment of 35 students in its first year. Following that, ODM became the first +2 CBSE residential school in Odisha, when it first introduced residential facilities for Senior Secondary Science students. The School has witnessed its evolution from a small building to a sprawling campus spread on 4 acres of land with 5 main blocks, from 10 students to a whooping 3500, from 2 teaching faculties to a fleet of 300+ staff. In years to come, it will definitely target the pinnacle of success by imparting qualitative education to inspire and change lives.

MJMC PROGRAMME

Our MJMC course provides state of the art audio visual facilities for studio production of formats such as news, panel discussion etc.. Outdoor productions & post productions. Active partnership with media houses for hands on training and exposure to industry’s best practices. Industry employability enhancement programmes empowering students for suitable job placements. Community radio station and TV station is also on the anvil. All this being done with the prime focus to give a high level of practical exposure to the students and to make them fit for the industry.

Master of Journalism & Mass Communication(MJMC) course will be held in four semesters. 1st, 2nd and 3rd semesters shall have four theory papers and one practical paper each and the 4th semester shall have two theory papers along with seminar, dissertation and attachment assignments as detailed below.

The Birla Global Institute (BGI), Bhubaneswar is a sister concern of BIMTECH, Greater Noida, which was established in the year 1988. Like the G. Noida campus the Bhubaneswar campus is also established by the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, the educational wing of the B.K. Birla Group of Companies. Dr. (Smt.) Sarala Birla, Chairperson of the Birla Academy and Syt. B. K. Birla, Chairperson of the B K Birla Group of companies are the founders of our business school.

The institute is governed by an eminent Board of Governors mostly drawn from top echelons of Industry. The BGI, Bhubaneswar (BBSR) campus was commenced in the Twenty-fifth year of operations of the G. Noida campus which was a very significant beginning. Set in a vast space of about 30 acres of land, this sister institution with its majestic buildings at Bhubaneswar, aims to serve the Higher Education needs of Odisha, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Sikkim And Tripura. The choice of Bhubaneswar as a destination has been motivated by the immense natural and human resources of the Eastern States in general and the emergence of the capital city as a destination for Higher Education in Eastern India in particular. The institute commenced operations from 01 August 2013 and is presently offering BBA and MJMC. BIMTECH Bhubaneswar, (Birla Institute of Management Technology PGDM) offers a two-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Management which is approved by AICTE. This programme has the advantage of using a rich knowledge capital, developed by the G.Noida campus over the last 25 years.

Admission into the programme is screened based on qualifying any one of these competitive exams i.e. CAT/XAT/MAT/CMAT/GMAT. Thereafter, Written Essays / GD and Personal Interview process is conducted with the support of senior corporate managers to select students for the programmes. Final selection into the program involves suitable weightages allocated for Work Experience, Academic and Professional Qualifications, Regional background etc.

PGDM is conducted in close association with the industry. From the admission of the students to the designing of the curriculum and providing opportunities for short term projects, summer internship and final placement, they are our partners. The rigorous regime inculcates in the participants the ability to work under pressure, multi-tasking besides giving them a strong academic base. Wading through classes, guest lectures, presentations and assignments, students also learn time management, which is an essential requirement for being a successful manager.

The PGDM programme is divided into six trimesters. Marketing, Finance, HR or Operations is offered as a specialization from the third trimester. Students are also exposed to the corporate world through industry-academia interface, special guest lectures, workshops, summer internship and short term projects, all of which are a part of the course design and has to be compulsorily taken up by the students. Live projects and industrial visits, jointly guided by the industry managers and faculty, develop students’ understanding of modern business processes and practices. A two month summer internship assignment with a corporate is mandatory between the first and second year. In addition, students complete 2 -3 short term projects as well.

FACULTY RESOURCES:

An institution is better judged for its quality by its faculty resource. The faculty has a combination of both youth & experience.

Apart from performing formal instructions in the classrooms, tutorial classes and laboratories, the faculty members provide counseling & guidance to students. Individual attention to student is ensured through proctorial support for proper personal development of individual & achievement of academic excellence. Faculty members are deputed to attend refreshers courses, short term training programmes and industrial training in order to upgrade their knowledge base. They are also liberally sponsored to attend seminars/ workshops/conferences etc. The institute periodically invites visiting faculty from NITs/IITs and industry personnel for guest lectures for the benefit of the students.

Academic infrastructure:

Physical infrastructure consists of spacious lecture halls, multimedia classrooms, tutorial rooms, well-equipped laboratories, seminar hall, air- conditioned conference hall, automated central library, digital library, language laboratory and campus with high-speed Internet connectivity. The academic objectives are achieved through regular classroom delivery, on-line course delivery and e-learning. Digital course materials from NPTEL in various courses have been uploaded into the institute. This serves as an extra learning resource for the students besides the classroom notes and handouts.

Scholarships & Financial Assistance:

There is a provision for scholarship to meritorious students. The nature and quantum of the scholarship is decided by the Managing Committee from time to time. A special Student Welfare Fund has been created by the staff members to ensure & encourage students with proven merit. and economically challenged. The continuation of the scholarship is subject to good performance in the subsequent semesters.

Industry Interface is an integral function of a professional institute like Silicon. The IICell of Silicon consists of a few faculty members headed by an IICell-Incharge.
