In the fond memory of his Grand Father “Seth Harnarayan Agrawal” Born in the year 1899 he was a great visionary of his time, called as SETH during British India by the locals because of his enumerable contribution to the society. He was Instrumental in setting up Panchayat College of Bargarh & Trust Fund College of Sambalpur.

The Trust has decided to set up a New Diploma Engineering Institution namely “BADRIPRASAD INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY” in Sambalpur, naming the institution after his Father “Sri Badriprasad Agrawal” .

Born in the year 1924, did his matriculation from George High School, Bargarh, went to Kolkata to study in prestigious “ Scotish Church College” Kolkata. Very active in sports, fond of Football & a philanthropist. Bargarh Dist. Athletic Assn. organizes “BADRIPRASAD MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT” every year since last 30 years.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang was established in the year of 1982 and was managed directly by the Govt. of Orissa in the name of Orissa College of Engineering (OCE). Prior to this, since 1981, the institute in the name of Modern Polytechnic (MPT) was offering Diploma Courses in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mining Survey Engineering. In the year 1987, both OCE & MPT were merged and renamed as IGIT, Sarang and the management was transferred to an Autonomous Society. Presently, the Institute is offering nine Under Graduate Engineering courses in Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Electronics & Telecommunication, Computer Science Engg., Production Engg., Architecture; & two part-time Post Graduate Engg courses in Industrial Power Control & Drives, Environmental Sc. &Engg.; nine full time Post Graduate Engg courses / Master courseComputer Sc.Engg., Electronics and Telecom. The Institute is fully residential with an integrated campus covering 179 acres of land encompassing hostels, staff quarters and a sprawling playground (Dr. M. P. Mishra memorial stadium) with basketball, volleyball and badminton courts. In addition to this, with the Govt. approval, a proposal has been submitted to District authorities for further alienation of 200 acres of Govt. land in front of the Institute for its further expansion. The institute has central infrastructure facilities like Central Library (with 27,000 volumes of books and 50 current periodicals / journals subscribed every year), Central Computer Centre, Central Workshop, Knowledge Centre, 8 nos. ofstudent hostels having accommodation facility for students and other amenities such as SBI (Core Bank facilities), Guest house , Hospital, Post Office, Canteen, Students and Employees Cooperative Consumer stores, NSS, NCC, different clubs, Telephone Exchange, Mobile tower and Schooling up to High School level in its campus.

There are eight departments, well equipped with highly qualified faculties and adequately equipped laboratories. The research activities of the institute are comparable with any other leading institute of the State and the Country. The faculties are well in touch with the advancement in modern technology around the world. Every year, numbers of research papers are published in journals and Conferences of National and International repute. 15 nos. of Ph.DS have so far been produced in different departments. Every year, National Conferences / Short term courses are organized in the institute in collaboration with IE / ISTE / AICTE. People across the country and outside also are in touch with our faculties in connection with technical research and consultancy. Quite a good nos. of our alumni are excelling in their field across the world.

Within a span of three decades, the institute has grown up to the National level academically. This is the first Govt. Engg. College in the state to have accreditation from NBA (AICTE) because of its academic excellence.

The serene atmosphere available at Sarang offers the students optimum opportunity to concentrate on studies. Priority is given through routine curricular programmes towards improvement of practical knowledge. In order to provide complete exposure to industrial life, the students are taken to nearby industrial organisations such as NALCO, N.T.P.C./T.T.P.S., M.C.L., N.T.P.C., Rengali Dam Project, Samal Barrage, Heavy Water Project, Bhusan Steel & Strips, Rana Sponge, Nav Bharat Ferro Alloys Jindal Steel & Powers Ltd., etc., on weekends and holidays. Brief History:The Institution was started by the Government of Orissa under the Industries Department in the year 1962 and was named “Composite Polytechnic”, Rourkela. In the year 1966, the name was changed to “Rourkela Polytechnic” and again in 1968 the institution was renamed “State Technological Institute”, Rourkela. Subsequently in the year 1976 the name was changed to UTKALMANI GOPABANDHU INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING, Rourkela (UGIE).

The institute is located in the tribal belt of the state of Orissa and was to cater to the needs of Rourkela Steel Plant along with other industries of the State. It was the only institution in Eastern India imparting Diploma Engineering in Chemical and Metallurgical branches. The institute got another feather on its cap by introducing Ceramic Technology in the year 1995 for the first time in Eastern India.

Location:The Institution is located in the Industrial Estate on the foothills of Rourkela (Dist. Sundargarh, Orissa). It is about 8 km. from the Main Road, near STI Chowk and 6 km. west of Rourkela Railway Station. There prevails a peaceful academic environment. Rourkela is 415 km. from Kolkata, on the Kolkata – Mumbai main line, 514 km from Bhubaneswar by road.

Laxminarayan College was established on August 18,1969 with the concerted efforts of a coterie of dedicated souls to fulfill the aspirations of the people of the locality. It was named after Pundit Laxminarayan Mishra a patriot and social worker. In contrast with the wide present day educational facilities, by then there was no educational institution nearly leaving apart the Kuchinda College at Kuchinda and a Govt. College at Sundergarh. An educational institution was essential at Jharsuguda and ultimately Laxminarayan College came into being with Dr. Narayan Sankar Behera, the president and Sri Ganesh Patel the secretary of the first establishment committee.
Since the inception of the college, it has long strides along the path of progress and success. At present, it is a full-fledged college with Arts, Science and Commerce streams both at +2 and +3 levels. Because of honours teaching facilities in almost all subjects in +3 level, this college is attracting students of other colleges. Anthropology, Industrial Fish and Fishery, which are rare subjects in many colleges, are being taught in this college. As Jharsuguda is caught in the web of industrialization and scientific advancement, the students need to be educated in modern day subjects. Hence, proposals have been sent to the higher authority for the opening of Information Technology as a subject in this college.
To say a few more words on the academic aspect, there are experienced teachers with M.Phil and Ph.D qualifications, who are adept in imparting qualitative education. The student strength of the college is appreciably good although a number of colleges have sprung up in the nearly areas. Students of other colleges take interest to enroll themselves in this college for the qualitative teaching. With a view to academic development of students, seminars and conference are organised time and often and students participation in them in encouraged. The consequence of such an academic ambience is commendable. The results in +3 level are praiseworthily and the names of a number of +3 students figure in the result sheet of Sambalpur university every year occupying positions in Best Ten.
Apart from the academic aspect, the students are encouraged to play active role in extra curricular activities and they are bringing laurels of glory to this college in these fields. There are two wings of N.C.C namely Army and Naval both for boys and girls and the active participation of students in these wings is praiseworthily. They not only discipline their lives and build up their career by joining NCC but also pledge to be better sentinels to safeguard the nation. Many students are enlisted in NSS works and they have been doing people’s welfare works in the periphery of Jharsuguda. Some students are members of the Red Cross Society and their contribution to social cause is commendable. A few students of this college, interested in sports and Athletics have made their mark even at the national level.

Last but not least the infrastructure development, a Ladies Hostel, a rich library with rare collection of books a magnificent college building and a large number of employees steal the show in the modern academic scenario.

When the idea of establishing a college began to take shape it promised to open up doors to higher learning. The founding members rightly took up the name of Vyasa, the archetype of the Universal man and of men’s intellectual attainment for its nomenclature.

Vyasnagar Autonomous College so established came to be known as VYASADEV COLLEGE OF ARTS, SCIENCE & TECHNOLOG which was later changed to VYASANAGAR COLLEGE.
