K.C.Mahindra Scholarship for PG studies Abroad

Since its inception, the trust has promoted education mainly by way of scholarships and grants to deserving and needy students. Some of these were instituted way back in the mid 1950s while others were founded more recently, a proof of its continuous efforts to bring about social and economic development through a literate, enlightened and empowered populace.

To encourage and motivate students, K. C. Mahindra Education Trust has set up the following scholarships:

Since 1956, K. C. Mahindra Education Trust has granted interest-free loan scholarships to deserving students to pursue post-graduate studies abroad in various fields.

Every year, we offer 50 scholarships, as given below:

1) A maximum of Rs.8 lakh per scholar, awarded to the top 3 K.C. Mahindra fellows
2) A maximum of Rs.2 lakh per scholar, awarded to remaining successful applicants

Human resources development programs play a vital role in assisting partner countries achieve sustainable development, and education is a crucial mechanism for training workforces in developing countries. The TaiwanICDF provides scholarships for higher education and has developed undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. programs in cooperation with renowned partner universities in Taiwan.

Sanskriti – Kalakriti Fellowship for Dance

Sanskriti – Kalakriti Fellowship for Dance

The Sanskriti Pratishthan invites applications for its annual Sanskriti – Kalakriti Fellowship in Performing Arts from young performing artists who wish to contribute towards enriching their respective art form. The scheme will be managed by the Sanskriti Pratishthan, which has been giving similar awards over the past 25 years.

Eligibility
The Fellowship is only open to Indian Nationals in the age group of 25 to 40.

While this fellowship specially encourages women applicants, all proposals that further the
objectives of the program are welcome. The candidate should have at least ten years of initial training in Indian classical dance. The fellow would be required to have given at least 2 ­3 solo performances to his/her credit in recognized forums.

The candidate will be required to take guidance from another senior guru and enhance the existing style. It would be a residency programme for a period of three months, which can be spread over the period of ten months. This will require the candidate to take consent from her current guru and the guru he/she would want to go to.

Objective
The purpose of the Fellowship is to encourage young artists to develop their potential and enhance their skills through intensive practice and or incorporating different facets of their art.

Terms
The duration of the Fellowship will be ten months. The grant of Rs. 50,000 will be given in two installments. The first installment of Rs 25,000/- will be given at the commencement of the fellowship programme and a short mid-term progress report will be required.

The second installment will be given after the submission of your complete project report
when the fellow may be requested to give a dance recital.

Agreement
The applicant will have to sign an agreement with Sanskriti Pratishthan pertaining to a
regular flow of work during the Fellowship period. The candidate should not be holding another Fellowship or working on any other project at the same time.

All candidates should mail their CV and a short synopsis of their project proposal to the
head office address.

How to apply
Candidates should send their two ­ page CV and a write up of approximately 500 words explaining their project. Full postal and telephonic contact details together with any E-mail id should be submitted to facilitate contact. Few samples of previous work, project or performances should be submitted. The names and contact addresses/telephones of two referees should also be sent.

Sanskriti – Mani Mann Fellowship in Music

Mani Mann Fellowship – in Hindustani Classical Music is awarded to young musicians to study and learn under the tutelage of an acclaimed guru of Indian Classical Music.

Objective
This Fellowship has been instituted to encourage promising young artists to advance in their field. This fellowship will enable the recipient to have the resources and time to dedicate to the art.

Eligibility
The Fellowship is only open to Indian Nationals in the age group of 25 to 40.

While this fellowship specially encourages women applicants, all proposals that further the objectives of the program are welcome. The applicant must hold a degree/diploma from a recognized university or institution in the field and/or the candidate should have at least ten years of initial training in Indian classical music. The fellow would be required to have given at least 2-3 solo performances to his/her credit in recognized forums.

The candidate will be required to take guidance from another senior guru and enhance the existing style. It would be a residency programme for a period of three months, which can be spread over the period of one year. This will require the candidate to take consent from his/her current guru and the guru he/she would want
to go to.

Terms
The duration of the Fellowship will be one year. The grant of Rs. 100,000 will be given in two phases; the first installment at the commencement of the award and the second installment after the submission of your complete project report when the candidate may be requested to give a vocal recital.
A short mid-term progress report will be required.

The applicant will have to sign an agreement with Sanskriti Pratishthan pertaining to a regular flow of work during the Fellowship period. The candidate should not be holding another Fellowship or working on any other project at the same time.

Sanskriti – Prabha Dutt Fellowship in Journalism

Sanskriti – Prabha Dutt Fellowship

The Prabha Dutt Fellowship in Journalism encourages young women who wish to investigate and research on any topic of contemporary relevance. This fellowship will be given every year. The Fellow may work on a book or monograph for subsequent publication within the given time frame. The work can be executed in Hindi, English or any Regional Language.

Objective
The purpose of the Fellowship is to encourage young mid career women journalists to develop their potential by pursuing meaningful projects without having to work under the pressures of short deadlines. The Fellowship carries a grant of Rs 1,00,000 including travel expenses. The work can be executed in Hindi, English or any Regional Language.

Eligibility
The Fellowship is only open to women who are Indian Nationals in the age group of 25 to 40. It is exclusively for print journalists. The Fellows will be required to publish a stipulated number of articles in established publications. The Fellow may work on a book or monograph for subsequent publication within the given time frame.

Terms
The duration of the Fellowship will be Ten months. A grant of Rs. 1,00,000 will be given in two phases; the first installment at the commencement of the award and the second after submission of the completed project. A progress report will be required after the first four months.

Agreement
The applicant will have to sign an agreement with Sanskriti Pratishthan pertaining to a regular flow of work during the Fellowship period. The candidate should not be holding another Fellowship or working on any other project at the same time.

How to apply
Candidates should send a two ­ page CV and a write up of about 250 – 300 words explaining their project. Full postal and telephonic contact details together with any e-mail id should be submitted to facilitate contact. Five samples of work published. Sanskriti – Geddes Scholarship

Sanskriti – Geddes Scholarship

The Sanskriti Foundation invites applications for its annual Geddes Scholarship for the study of the methodology and principles of Geddes town planning from students of planning and architecture/young professionals.

Sanskriti has also expanded the scope by including other institutions, like schools who would be interested in sensitizing school children at a time when they are reading history and social sciences. By way of a School Project, incorporating Geddes’ ideas, children will be introduced to the concepts of architecture and town planning.

The scholarship has been instituted in the joint memory of Patrick Geddes and his son Arthur Geddes, both of whom had a long association with India. The work of Patrick Geddes continues to serve as a catalyst for today’s sustainable city movement. Patrick Geddes spent almost a decade in India after coming out during the First World War. He was impressed by India’s urban centers, and what he saw as a spirit of harmony between architecture, water-bodies, public spaces and trees.

Eligibility
The scholarship is only open to Indian Nationals in the age group of 20 to 30.The applicant must be a student of planning and architecture at a graduate/postgraduate/research level from a recognized university or institution and /or young practicing professionals. The applicants can be an individual or can be a collaborative work of a group of individuals.

Objective
The objective of the scholarship is to promote and advance interest in and understanding of Patrick Geddes’ principles of town planning. This scholarship will provide an opportunity to create awareness among young planners and architects of Geddes’ principle of ‘place, work, and folk’.

Terms
The duration of the scholarship will be six months. The scholarship of Rs. 45,000 will be given in two phases; the first installment at the commencement of the scholarship and the second installment after the submission of the complete project report.
Three months after the commencement of the work, an interim report should be submitted to the coordinator. The report will be circulated to the Committee who may offer comments to the researcher to consider. The final report when submitted will also be reviewed by the committee and any changes required can be incorporated.
On the successful completion of the study the candidate may be invited to present the findings in a seminar in Delhi.

Agreement
The applicant will have to sign an agreement with Sanskriti Pratishthan pertaining to a regular flow of work during the scholarship period. The candidate should not be holding another scholarship/fellowship or working on any other project at the same time. In the event of non-completion and non-compliance to any of the terms and conditions mentioned above the scholarship amount must be returned.

How to Apply
Interested Candidates should send a two page CV. The Full postal and telephonic contact details together with E-mail id should be submitted to facilitate contact. The proposal should not merely be a compilation of reports but should contain a well researched proposal which would advance the application of the Geddes ideas, a plan of action including field visits and the availability of archival material relevant to that study. A bibliography of the reports, websites browsed should accompany the proposal.

The proposal can also focus on a section of the city/mohalla. The applicant has to expose the methodology of diagnostic survey and conservative surgery as a visible strategic option for the renewal of cities in India.

Priority will be given to such proposals which traces and advances the relevance of Geddes’ ideas and work The project proposal should be written in 1500 words with reference to the specific city /section/mohalla.

International Scholarship Programme

The 2016-2017 International Scholarship Programme application cycle is now open. Application forms can be obtained from the Aga Khan Foundation or Aga Khan Education Service/Board office in the applicant’s country of current residence.

Before contacting the AKDN, please read the information below. Addresses and contact information are available under Application Procedures. In case you are looking for information about scholarships for your further studies, this list of scholarship links may be helpful.

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies, in order to develop effective scholars and leaders and to prepare them for employment, primarily within the AKDN. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant : 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master’s level courses but is willing to consider applications for PhD programmes, only in the case of outstanding students who are highly recommended for doctoral studies by their professors and who need a PhD for the fulfilment of their career objectives (academic or research oriented).

Applications for short-term courses are not considered; neither are applications from students who have already started their course of study.

Eligibility

Geographic Scope
The Foundation accepts applications from nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique. In France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada, applications are accepted from those who are originally from one of the above developing countries, are interested in development-related studies and who have no other means of financing their education.

Residency Requirement
The Foundation only accepts applications of eligible nationals listed above who are residing in one of the countries where there are local Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), or Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB) offices which process applications and interview candidates.

Age Limit
Preference is given to students under 30 years of age.

Selection Criteria

The main criteria for selecting award winners are: l) consistently excellent academic records, 2) genuine financial need, 3) admission to a highly reputable university or programme of study and 4) relevance of the field of study to AKDN’s focus areas. Candidates are also evaluated on demonstrating thoughtful and coherent educational and career plans, their extra-curricular interests and achievements, potential to achieve their goals and likelihood to succeed in a foreign academic environment. Applicants are expected to have some years of work experience in their field of interest.

Financial Assistance

The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only. The cost of travel is not included in AKF scholarships. Funding for PhD programmes is only provided for the first two years of study, after which the students are expected to find alternative sources of assistance. Financial assistance is provided according to the needs of students, but the ISP must be considered a lender of last resort. Applicants are requested to make every effort to obtain funding from other sources as well, so that the amount requested from the Foundation can be reduced to a minimum. Preference is given to those who have been able to secure some funding from alternative sources.

Loan Conditions

Half of the scholarship amount is considered as a loan, which must be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5%. A guarantor is required to co-sign the loan agreement. The payback period is five years, starting six months after the study period funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.

Application Procedures

The application procedures of AKF’s International Scholarship Programme are decentralised. Students may obtain application forms as of January 1st each year from AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services / Boards in their countries of current residence. Completed applications should be returned to the agency from which the form was obtained. They should not be sent to Geneva.

Application Deadline

The deadline for submission of entire completed applications is March 31, although in certain countries internal deadlines may be earlier in order to process and review applications. Applicants are advised to contact the local offices for internal deadline dates and requirements as these may vary from country to country. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Interview and Selection Notification

Gandhi Fellowship Programme

1. What is Gandhi Fellowship?
Gandhi Fellowship is an intensive 2-year residential program that helps talented young people develop the leadership skills essential to cause disproportionate positive change in society. The Fellowship challenges these young people to support and partner primary school headmasters to transform their schools to achieve the desired educational outcomes. In the process, Fellows discover their definite goals in life and how to go about converting their ideas and dreams into reality.

2. What exactly happens during the Fellowship?
During the 2 years of the Fellowship, the fellows are assigned 5 schools each. The fellows have to bring about a significant transformation in these schools. The 2 years are divided into four semesters. The program starts with an induction and immersion into the school and village context. And with each semester, the fellows get deeper into the challenges of the school and resolve them successfully. These 2 years have been interspersed with daily peer reviews, expert reviews, personal reflection workshops, field visits to social organizations, vipassana meditation retreats, reflective reading, community immersions etc., which help the fellows evolve and develop critical leadership skills.

3. What do fellows exactly do in schools?
Their major role is to strategically help the HMs build their capacity as a leader, overcome challenges and improve the quality of learning. They support the HM in everything relating to the school development plan – organizing an ideal morning assembly, increasing student enrolment, improving the mid-day meal system, organizing School Monitoring Committee (SMC), mobilizing community participation and collaboration with their fellow teachers.

4. How will the fellows benefit from the Fellowship program?
By working on a social change problem, the fellows understand change leadership at the generic level, a system design thinking process that they can apply to any social problem they want to solve. The Fellowship is designed to help the fellows develop the following seven competencies – Self Awareness, Collaborative Work, Excellence, Influence without Authority, Articulation of Values, Risk Taking and Articulation of Private Dream.

5. What do Fellows do after two years?
During the two years, Fellows are supported define their private dream and are equipped with the skills to pursue it after the 2 years. There is a placement cell in the Fellowship which helps in finding jobs if necessary (aligned to their Private Dreams), but fellows are expected to be independent and find their own way in pursuing their dream – which is the very idea of the Fellowship.

6. Why was this Fellowship program created?
India today faces a serious leadership crisis in every domain. The top minds of the top colleges in our country are busy running after personal success rather than even thinking about the society. The Fellowship feels the need to guide talented youth to actively engage with solving the myriad problems plaguing the country today. So, the Fellowship was created with the intent to get the best students in the country to run through a two year curriculum which we believe will help them become the next generation of nation builders.

7. When was the Fellowship started and how many have participated in it so far?
The Fellowship started in 2008 with 11 fellows in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. In 2009, the Fellowship program expanded to Ahmedabad with a batch of 23 fellows and in 2010 it further expanded to Mumbai with the third batch of 36 fellows. The fourth batch had a strength of 123 fellows and in 2012, 163 students have joined the Fellowship. 104, 178 and 173 fellows joined from 2013 to 2015. It has been steadily growing in popularity and graduates from the top colleges in the country have participated in this.

8. What kind of support will the fellows get during the 2-year period?
A unique grant system encapsulates the philosophy of encouraging and supporting youth to take risks and build entrepreneurial skills. Gandhi fellowship provides: an all-inclusive monthly grant of Rs.14,000 (taxable), a fixed monthly phone allowance of Rs.600 (taxable) and rent-free accommodation, transport and other allowances as applicable based on the need to support the fruition of ideas of youth post fellowship, basic grant of Rs 14,000 is divided into:

basic monthly sustenance grant of Rs. 7000 (pre-tax) and
interest-free reserve amount of Rs 161000 cumulated from the remaining Rs. 7000
The cumulative reserve amount will be paid at the end of the Term and successful completion of the Fellowship after the period of 23 months. This cumulative grant supports Gandhi Fellowship graduates to kick start their choices of a social enterprise individually or collaboratively with other Fellows, International learning exposure or specialized higher studies in line with their aspirations.

9. Who is behind this Fellowship program?
The Fellowship is an initiative of Kaivalya Education Foundation (KEF) & Piramal Foundation for Education Leadership (PFEL), the not-for-profit companies that designs and runs innovative leadership development programmes with respect to the social sector. KEF & PFEL are led by a professional and experienced management team and given strategic direction by an eminent management board, whose members are: Mr Ajay G. Piramal – Chairman of Piramal Healthcare, Mr Narayanan Vaghul – Chairman of ICICI Bank, Debashish Mitter – leads the Michael and Susan Dell foundation’s strategy and Mr Aditya Natraj – Founder Director of KEF and previously a corporate finance consultant with KPMG.

The Fellowship is funded by Piramal Foundation, UNICEF, USAID and Michael and Susan Dell foundation. To honor the invaluable contribution made by Mr. Ajay Piramal the Fellowship is called Piramal Fellowship in Rajasthan.
